The Story So Far

Jason Lenyer Buchanan was raised in Southeast Texas. The youngest of three siblings, his childhood was filled with adventures in the Sam Houston National Forest and biking along dirt roads. He grew up immersed in church life, leading youth music programs on Wednesdays and actively participating in choirs and musical events within the church and community. Despite their limited finances, Jason's family prioritized the arts, ensuring that he took piano and guitar lessons and participated in the Huntsville Choir, which was supported by Sam Houston State University.

After graduating with Undergraduate and Master's Degrees from a smattering of Baptist universities in East and Central Texas (ETBU, Baylor, and Dallas Baptist University), Jason continued leading music in churches (bi-vocationally) while also progressing in his chosen profession.

Though his career required the majority of time, constant songwriting and periodic live performances were the bookends throughout the changing seasons of life. In 2019, as time allowed, Jason began to work with a songwriting coach in Nashville, TN (Ross King). Together, they released the songs "Broken Down Home", "The Power of Love", and "Slow". On Ross' advice, Jason began working with a Producer (Joel Rousseau) also from Nashville. With Joel's guidance and collaboration, they released the songs, "Defects", "Moving", and "More Todays" in 2021.

In June 2021, Jason took a hiatus from releasing music as he moved to Cheyenne, WY. But soon after settling into life in the West, he unpacked the studio and began writing again. Thankful for the continuing partnership with Joel, they released the "Crooked Rivers" album in November 2023 and then released a follow-up EP "Under a Thumbnail Moon" in the summer of 2025. The band "Jason Buchanan & The Short Timers" was formed in this season. But not too long afterward, Jason's season in Wyoming would come to an end though he'd be forever connected to the high-plains. Jason and the boys (Brian Hiltner, Marcus Gallizzi, and Aric Hageman) regularly perform throughout the West and, now, the Pacific Northwest.

After settling in Portland, Oregon, Jason was selected as a 2026 Easyfolk Featured Artist. He has also begun work on the next album, yet to be titled, with anticipated release in 2026.
